Berklee City Music Summit '16

Accompanied by our musical director Juan Diaz and mentors Zach Larmer and Daniel Marques, our Live 3 band traveled to Newark to perform and participate in the Berklee City Music Summit this past November. From master classes with acclaimed artists to one-on-one mentorship, our students had the chance to take their musicianship to the next level, forging new relationships and discovering a new city along the way.

Our very own Daniel Diaz was there to capture the journey, creating an intimate look at Teddy, Sasha, Mason, Cristian and David's experience during the summit.

The Crew

Our Live! 3 band was beyond fortunate to have been paired with Banda Magda's Magda Giannikou as their mentor. From Left to Right: David, Sasha, Cristian, Danny, Magda, Teddy, Mason, Juan, and Zach.

Day One

Checked in, enjoyed a performance by City Music Boston during breakfast, and rehearsed before the big show at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

Friends = Family

The crew celebrated with Magda after their performance, hanging after a day of hard work.

Day Two: Workshops

Group percussion session, followed by individual workshops for piano, voice and guitar.

Jam Sesh

After Day 02 of the Summit, Cristian, David, Teddy and Mason joined the other City Music Network bands for a laid-back jam at a local music venue.

Pre-Show

Dress rehearsals, followed by an intimate conversation with Magda right before the band's opening performance.

Press Play

Watch some scenes from the Summit and hear what our students had to say about being mentored by Magda Giannikou, playing with students from around the country, and even working with Michael League from Snarky Puppy.

Day Three: Past, Present & Future

On Day 3, everyone ventured out to the Big Apple, where the Live! family reunited with a few LMSOM alumni that now call New York City home. We caught up with Maia, Theo, Delbert and Luca and shared a gorgeous afternoon talking about life, music and what the future holds.

There's nothing we love more that witnessing our students live out the love for their craft, growing collectively and sharing experiences that not only change them individually but also strengthens the bond between them.

This experience would not have been possible without support from the Berklee City Music Network, who continually backs our vision and provides our students and organization with the absolute best resources and opportunities for growth and higher learning. We're humbled to be a part of this incredible network and are excited for what's to come.

A warm and heartfelt thank you to our talented band for representing Live! so beautifully, to the families that traveled to support these amazing musicians, and to the wonderful Magda Giannikou for the encouragement, passion and wisdom shared with our students.
